RE359600016 ✅ Unclogging and cleaning the gas water heater coilHello plumber, today I am going to show you how to unclog and clean the gas water heater coil, a simple repair of a gas water heater, which over time becomes blocked by the effect of limescale.TOOLS: 1.
✅ Adjustable wrench 2. Phillips screwdriver 3.
✅ Hydrochloric acid or vinegar (your choice) 4.
✅ Your hands, of course (preferably with rubber gloves) STEP 1: DISASSEMBLE THE WATER HEATER The coil is a circuit of pipes through which cold water passes, and it is subjected to heat (from gas in this case). We remove the knobs for switching on the water heater and for adjusting the water temperature.
✅ Next we remove the white steel cover to expose the inside of the water heater; the first thing we will see is the coil.
✅ At the back, on the right and on the left, you will see some threaded copper pipes; unscrew them and you can remove the coil. STEP 2: CLEAN THE COIL Once we have it, we place it face up and pour the hydrochloric acid or vinegar in through one of the pipes, then step back and let it work for about 20 minutes with hydrochloric acid, or 3 hours if using vinegar, and it comes out perfect.
✅ Then we turn it upside down, run water through one of the pipes with a hose and rinse it. STEP 3: REASSEMBLY AND START-UP We reassemble the coil, put the water heater cover back on, screw it in place and refit the knobs for the water regulator and the ignition.
✅ We turn on the water and plug in the water heater.
✅ We remove the filter from the tap where we are going to open the hot water so that the water heater switches on. We do this so that no residue remains and the water flows more freely and finishes cleaning properly, and that's it.
